  • 12 oz pasta (such as penne or rotini)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Parmesan cheese, for serving
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  • Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Add the pasta and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer until the pasta is cooked through, about 10–12 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, and garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta for a healthier option. Add some vegetables like bell peppers or spinach for extra nutrition. For more creaminess, stir in some cream or cheese before serving.
