Ingredients
  

Burger Patties

  • 1 pound ground beef Use ground beef for the best flavor.
  • 1.5 tablespoons creamy dressing
  • 1.5 tablespoons dried minced onion Or replace with finely chopped fresh onion.
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Toppings and Buns

  • 1 cup sauerkraut, well drained Drain well to avoid soggy buns.
  • 1 cup chopped cooked deli-style beef Can substitute with chopped corned beef or pastrami.
  • 4 pieces rye buns Use fresh for best results.
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese Add in the last minute of cooking.
  • 0.25 cup creamy dressing For serving.
  • 2 teaspoons butter For toasting the buns.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, creamy dressing, dried minced onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and form into 4 patties.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat and cook patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side. Add Swiss cheese during the last minute.
  • Warm the sauerkraut and chopped deli beef in a pan over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Butter the rye buns and toast them until golden.

Assembly

  • Assemble the burgers by layering the patties, sauerkraut mixture, and additional dressing. Top with the toasted bun and serve immediately.

Notes

Keep patties separate from buns when storing to prevent sogginess. Freeze uncooked patties for up to 3 months.
