Ingredients
  

Naan Bread

  • 1/4 cup warm water For activating yeast
  • 2 teaspoons sugar Helps activate yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry or instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt or plain natural yogurt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil Plus 2 tablespoons extra for cooking
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Plus extra for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it turns bubbly.
  • Stir in the warm milk, yogurt, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, and minced garlic. Add flour, baking powder, and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 3-5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Lightly oil a clean bowl, place the dough inside, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Cooking

  • Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces and roll each piece into an oval shape.
  • Heat a greased skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Place a naan piece in the skillet, cook until bubbly, then flip and cook until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  • In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped herbs. Brush over the warm naan breads before serving.

Notes

Serve the naan warm for the best taste. Use it to scoop curries, wrap fillings, or as a quick pizza base.
