  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Finely grated for even flavor
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped Use fresh for best flavor
  • 1 3/4 cups warm water Warm, not hot, for activating yeast

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast.
  • Stir in the Parmesan cheese and chopped rosemary.
  • Gradually add warm water, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  • Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead for a few minutes, and shape it into a round loaf.
  • Place on a baking sheet and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Let it cool before slicing.

Notes

Serve slices warm or at room temperature. Good pairings include butter or olive oil with sea salt, tomato soup, roasted vegetables, or a cheese board. Use leftovers for croutons or toast.
