Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef steak, cut into chunks Use stewing beef or chuck if steak is not available.
  • 1 unit onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 units carrots, sliced
  • 3 units potatoes, cubed Cut to similar sizes for even cooking.

Liquids and Seasoning

  • 2 cups beef broth Use beef stock cubes if prepared broth is not available.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme Swap for rosemary for different flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Use for sautéing.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onions and garlic, and sauté until translucent.
  • Add beef chunks and sear on all sides.
  • Stir in carrots and potatoes.
  • Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Season with thyme, salt, and pepper.

Cooking

  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 90 minutes to 2 hours, until beef is tender.

Serving

  • Serve warm in deep bowls, optionally topped with chopped parsley and accompanied by crusty bread.

Notes

For extra depth, add a splash of red wine when you add the broth. Can be served with noodles or rice for a different twist.
