Ingredients
  

Burger Patties

  • 1 1/4 pounds ground beef Use fresh ground beef for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal Adds crunch.
  • 1/4 cup quick oats Helps bind the patties and adds texture.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil For frying.

Toppings

  • 3 tablespoons yellow mustard Can be swapped for spicy brown mustard or mayo.
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns Use fresh, soft buns.
  • 1/3 cup finely minced white onion For classic sharp flavor.
  • 16 to 20 slices dill pickle Add extra pickles at the table if desired.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cornmeal, quick oats, salt, and black pepper. Mix just until everything is evenly combined.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into thin burger patties. Press them fairly flat for crispy edges.

Cooking

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through.

Assembly

  • Spread yellow mustard on the inside of each hamburger bun.
  • Place a cooked patty on each bun, then top with minced onion and dill pickle slices.
  • Close the burgers and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

For best texture, cool cooked patties to room temperature before storing. Use gentle hands to form patties to avoid them falling apart. Press thin for crisp edges and quick cooking.
