  • 500 g beef steak, diced Use a tender cut for best results.
  • 1 unit onion, chopped A yellow onion works well.
  • 200 g mushrooms, sliced Button mushrooms or cremini can be used.
  • 2 tablespoons flour Helps to thicken the sauce.
  • 500 ml beef stock Homemade or store-bought stock is fine.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season to preference.
  • 1 sheet puff pastry Store-bought for convenience.
  • 1 unit egg, beaten For egg wash to achieve a golden top.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • In a large pan, cook the steak over medium heat until browned.
  • Add the chopped onion and mushrooms, cooking until softened.
  • Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir, then gradually add beef stock and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Simmer until thickened, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Transfer the filling to a baking dish and cover with puff pastry, sealing the edges.
  • Brush the pastry with beaten egg.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden.

Notes

Serve hot to keep the pastry crisp. Pair with chips, mushy peas, or a simple salad for a full plate. Cool and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
