Dough Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water Use warm water, not hot, to activate the yeast.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Brush tops with olive oil or melted butter before baking for shine.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  • Add olive oil and salt, and then gradually mix in flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough, shape into rolls, and place on a baking sheet.
  • Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Store rolls in an airtight container or resealable bag at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, freeze wrapped rolls up to 1 month.
