  • 1 wheel wheel of brie (8-12 ounces) Choose your preferred brand.
  • 1 sheet sheet of frozen puff pastry, thawed Ensure puff pastry is chilled before use.

For the Apples

  • 2 pieces Honeycrisp apples, sliced Can substitute with Gala or Fuji apples.
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter Can use unsalted if preferred.
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup Adds sweetness to the apples.
  • 2 tablespoons apple butter or fig preserves For spreading on top of the brie.

For Garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a baking dish, toss apple slices with butter and maple syrup. Roast in the oven for about 25 minutes until tender and caramelized.
  • Lay the puff pastry flat on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place the wheel of brie in the center and carefully cut away a bit of the rind from the top.
  • Spread apple butter or fig preserves over the exposed top of the brie. Fold the corners of the puff pastry over the brie to enclose it completely.

Baking

  • Brush pastry with the beaten egg to give it a golden finish, then sprinkle lightly with coarse sugar.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden and crisp.

Serving

  • Remove from oven and spoon the roasted apples over the baked brie. Garnish with fresh thyme and serve warm.
  • Enjoy with crackers, toasted baguette slices, or apple slices.

Notes
