  • 1 cup rice Use your preferred type of rice.
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth Chicken broth for non-vegetarian; otherwise, use vegetable broth.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Unsalted butter recommended.
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced Yellow or sweet onions are preferable.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust seasoning to your preference.
  • to taste Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional) Add for freshness when serving.

Cooking Instructions

  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
  • Add the rice to the skillet and stir to coat with butter and onions.
  • Pour in the broth and add garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18–20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

Use low to medium heat for best onion caramelization. Rinse rice for fluffiness. Let the rice rest for better texture after cooking. Reheat with broth or water to restore moisture.
