Main Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu Press well to remove excess water.
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour Use chickpea flour for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder Adjust for desired spiciness.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • to taste Salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Curry leaves (optional) Add for flavor during frying.
  • Green chilies (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Press the tofu to remove excess water and cut it into cubes.
  • In a bowl, mix cornstarch, rice flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and salt.
  • Toss the tofu cubes in the spice mixture until well coated.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Fry the tofu cubes until they are golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  • If desired, add curry leaves for flavor during the last minute of frying.

Serving

  • Garnish with green chilies and serve hot.

Notes

Let the Crispy South Indian Tofu cool to room temperature before storing. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate up to 2 days. Re-crisp in a hot pan or oven for best results.
