  • 4 large large turkey legs
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce Preferably your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For searing

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Rinse the turkey legs and pat them dry.
  • In a small bowl, mix garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Rub the mixture all over the turkey legs.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Sear the turkey legs in the skillet until browned on all sides.
  • Transfer the turkey legs to a baking dish and brush them generously with BBQ sauce.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1.5 - 2 hours, or until the turkey is cooked through and tender.
  • Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
  • Serve hot.

Notes

Pat the legs dry well before seasoning to help them brown. For a sticky glaze, brush more BBQ sauce in the last 30 minutes. Use a meat thermometer; turkey is safe at 165°F (74°C). Cool the turkey legs to room temperature before storing.
