  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor.
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar You can reduce sugar by 1/4 cup if desired.
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Or gluten-free flour mix for a gluten-free option.
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
  • Stir in the melted butter.
  • Mix in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in.
  • Fold in the flour until just incorporated.

Combining

  • Divide the batter in half, adding cocoa powder to one half, and mix.
  • Pour the banana batter into the pan, then add dollops of the chocolate batter.
  • Swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect.

Baking

  • Bake for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool before removing from the pan.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Cut into thick slices and add butter, cream cheese, or powdered sugar. Store the cooled loaf in plastic wrap or an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze slices for up to 3 months.
