Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef (your choice of cut) Cuts that become tender with slow cooking, like chuck or round.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For searing the beef.
  • 1 onion, chopped For flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced For flavor.
  • 1 cup beef broth For cooking liquid.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • Vegetables of your choice (e.g., carrots, bell peppers, broccoli) Add in the last 10 minutes.
  • Fresh herbs (e.g., rosemary or thyme) for garnish Optional for serving.

Instructions

Cooking Steps

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Season the beef with salt and pepper, then add to the skillet. Sear on all sides until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove the beef and set aside. In the same skillet, add onions and garlic. Sauté until softened.
  • Add beef broth and soy sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  • Return the beef to the skillet, cover, and reduce heat to low. Cook for 20-30 minutes, or until the beef is tender and cooked through.
  • Add vegetables to the skillet during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

Cool the beef to room temperature before storing. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the oven to keep the beef tender.
